A leading car hiring company has almost doubled in the last year in its presence in the UK alone.

The car hire company Avis has opened a massive 37 new car hire outlets across the UK over the last 2 months and are continuing on their rise.

News.limobroker.co.uk reported that the company is currently in a state of rapid growth, with the company wanting to open a further 100 leisure car rental outlets in the UK over the next year.

This will then be followed up by the plan of another 100 more in 2012.

This continues to show the growing trend in car rental over owning a car in the UK, something which is becoming an increasing trend across the world in the current financial climate.

The head of the car rental company Avis, Anthony Ainsworth has been quoted as saying that these recent growths show a “Significant achievement” for the company.

The plan now for Avis is to have a rental outlet within any household in the UK and with the way the market is growing at the moment; it is something that looks achievable.

The results of a survey have revealed that the highest ranking car hire companies are Travelsupermarket.com and carrentals.co.uk according to limobroker.co.uk.

The survey which was undertaken by search engine optimisation experts and online marketing specialists, Greenlight, said that the two companies were the most searched for when people were looking for car hire.

Results indicated that the companies recieved 94 per cent of the organic search results and 64 per cent for paid for and social media sites.

With the restrictions on purchasing new cars in Beijing implemented in order to reduce the amount of traffic on the road, car hire has become big business in Beijing.

Reported by www.carsforstars.net this sudden influx in car rental has led to many hiring companies having a believed 90% of their vehicles out at any given time.

The boom in car hire is due to a new government scheme that aims to reduce the poor driving conditions in the Chinese capital over recent times.

The Chinese government placed a ban on purchasing any cars from within the capital for a month as well as only allowing a randomly chosen 20,000 potential buyers to be picked at random to determine who gets a new vehicle.

This has been furthered by any car owners with a number plate from outside Beijing being band from within the capital during the peak times of travel.

This is great news for anyone who is looking to commute to Beijing, with many of the car hire companies offering huge discounts in a bid to win over customers.

If you are looking to see some of the many sites of Beijing, car hire may be now the best option for you, if you are a willing to fight through the traffic jams that is.

Paris leads way with electric car share program

Tourists are expected to be amongst those set to benefit from the announcement that will make Paris the first major world city to operate a car-sharing program.

Around 3,000 electric cars will be made available across the city by the end of this year, in a bid to tackle growing levels of air pollution.

The program will be modeled on the highly successful Velib bike sharing system that was launched three years ago.

French billionaire and entrepreneur, Vincent Bollore has been chosen out of three bids, lodged in a yearlong process, by Parisian city officials to run the new program, dubbed Autolib.

“Bluecars” – four-seated electric cars, developed by Bollore will be positioned at around 1,200 stations in the Paris area for access around the clock. The only requirements for the cars are a subscription fee and a valid driver’s license.

Tourists will also be able to use the cars, providing they hold a drivers license recognized by French authorities.

An annual of subscription of €12 per month has been earmarked but daily and weekly option are expected to be available.

The program is expected to have its official launch in October, later this year.

Car hire set to be cheaper in 2011

Industry experts are predicting that car hire should be significantly cheaper in 2011 following the past couple of years of high prices, where holidaymakers have seen as much as a 500 per cent increase in some of the top summer destinations.

The findings come from a round table event recently held by Holiday Autos, the UK’s leading leisure car hire broker, where they invited key car hire suppliers to discuss the challenges of 2010 and predictions for the next year.

The holiday industry was hit hard last year with events such as Iceland’s volcanic eruption and strikes by BA staff as well as the current economic climate, all of which to contributed to higher prices for travel and also having an impact on the car hire industry.

Now predictions are that firms are now moving towards a more stable financial 2011, adding more choice of vehicles for holidaymakers and increased availability, making hiring a car more competitive.

Matthew Thornett, head of pricing at Holiday Auto’s, said: “2011 will be the first time for a few years that customers could see a significant drop in car hire prices. However, we still expect to see prices and supply to be similar to previous years at peak season, such as Christmas, Easter and school holidays and in popular destinations.

“Ensuring you book your car hire early will still continue to be important in 2011 to make sure you get value for money.”

The futures of car hire companies look to be taking a much more affordable and practical turn in 2011.

In Leicester, the city council is looking to work with the car rental firm Hertz in introducing a new scheme that would mean the customer is never paying well over the odds to car hire.

The scheme would mean that subscribers to the car hire service would be able to collect the car from multiple collection sites through Leicester.

The rates of renting a car would be around £3.95 an hour for one of the vehicles with a subscription charge also required of around £50 annually in order to access the car hire program.

The charges for the amount of miles that you cover would be free within the first 30miles, but cost around 25p per mile after these 30 miles are exceeded.

Great news if you signed up for the car hire scheme at the beginning as you will also receive a free year’s membership when the scheme is introduced.

This could be a much more efficient way of car hire, as the amount that you pay for renting the car will be more in your hands than ever before.

City Car Club set to expand in Cardiff

Car hire scheme, City Car Club, has ambitious plans to expand their fleet from 10 to 50 cars over the next year.

The scheme, that has cars in cities across the country, offers a service for those who don’t want the hassle of owning a car, but want to be able to hire and drive a car quickly when they need to.

All you have to do is call the centre and they will give you a pin-code for a nearby car, you can simply jump in and drive away. The idea is that it helps reduce car emission in cities where many drive their cars unnecessarily.

The scheme is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government which contributed £120,000 to help fund the new public car hire system.

A user of the system, Jane from London: ‘Perfect for those times when public transport will not do. It would be madness to own a car.’

Cardiff Council also introduced a new bike hire facility which has made 45 bicycles available for hire at different spots around the city, earlier this year. This is part of a wider project aimed at reducing the cities C02 emission.

Ryanair car hire just £12 per day on the Canary Islands

Holidaymakers going to the Canary Islands are being encouraged to explore more of what the island has to offer with car hire from just £12 per day in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Fuerteventura.

Leading Eurpean car rental website ArgusCarHire.com have implemented the deals after Ryanair announced plans to increase routes to the Islands from Febuary 2011.

The airline have said that they will base six aircraft in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife and will increase frequencies to Fuerteventura.

Barry Malone, head of online at Argus Hire, said about the ‘Explore More, Pay Less’ campaign: “The Volcanic landscapes and national parks of the Canary Islands, but with cheap car rental – and now, increased low cost flights from Ryanaire, it’s definitely a case of seeing more and paying less for anyone planning a winter sun getaway or summer break in the Canaries.”
